They realized that retired public employees have a vested interest in legislation or other events which could potentially affect their monthly benefits, cost of living adjustments, insurance, organizational change to PERS or its Board of Trustees, and the type of pension plan we have. Therefore, MRPEA has and continues to conduct events, support educational programs, sponsor beneficial legislation and Constitutional amendments, discourage unfriendly legislation, and pursue other activities aimed at enhancing members’ lives and well being.   Local news coverage increases visibility of both members and issues important to the organization's growth. MRPEA members will learn to gain publicity through media relations training. The power of affiliation gives each member of Mississippi Retired Public Employees' Association and the group as a whole a voice of leadership to protect and strengthen the Public Employees' Retirement System. Proper funding and healthy long-term investment returns form the foundation for financial soundness of the System. If you are either a retiree or public employee of any state or local agency in Mississippi that participates in PERS, you are eligible for membership in the Mississippi Retired Public Employees’ Association and the benefits of membership. MRPEA's organization structure offers eight multi-county Districts. The leadership team aims to enhance face-to-face communications opportunities to residents of every district throughout the year.
